Covid cases are rising sharply in part in Southend with some areas seeing increases of more than 70 per cent.

Official Government figures show the case rate per 100,000 people for 7–day period ending on 28 November 2021.

Here are the areas of Southend seeing rising cases: 

  • Great Wakering and Foulness - 100 cases a rise of 43 and 75.4% 
  • Ashingdon saw 70 cases which is a rise of 31 and 79.5% 
  • Blenheim Park has seen 72 - that's a rise of .29 and 67.4% 
  • Southend Central recorded 47 positve covid cases - an increase of 4 and 9.3%
  • Kursaal has seen 68 cases which is a rise of 16 and 30.8%, 
  • Eastwood Park saw 61 cases a rise of 13 and 27.1% 

An online ‘Covid calculator’ predicts how many cases of Covid Essex will be seeing in the lead up to Christmas.

The Imperial College London map predicts by December 12 most areas in Essex will be seeing more than 300 cases a week.

The data also shows which areas are seeing infections likely increasing.

Maldon, Southend, Basildon and Thurrock all show a more than 90% likelihood infections are currently increasing.

In Braintree and Rochford it is 83% and in Castle Point it is 82%.

In other areas of Essex the direction is unclear but there is a 50% likelihood cases are increasing.
