easyJet is making its eagerly anticipated return to Southend Airport next year.

The budget airline is providing flights to and from Malaga and Majorca between May and October as part of its summer schedule.

It will be the first time the airline has provided services from Southend for nearly two years.

Many are hopeful the return of easyJet to Southend Airport will see it introduce more destinations in the future.

Echo readers were behind an extension to easyJet’s services when asked for their views on Facebook, with more than 700 putting forward suggestions for other destinations it could fly to from Southend Airport.

The Echo put this very question to bosses at easyJet, and though there are no initial plans to extend the destination list, it hasn’t been ruled out.

A spokesman said: “While we don’t currently have plans to operate more routes from Southend, we are pleased to be able to serve our customers in the region once again with routes to Malaga and Palma for next summer.

“We continually keep our network under review, to identify opportunities to offer more choice for our customers.”

Among the most popular suggestions made by Echo readers about which other destinations they would like to see added was for further destinations were Edinburgh, Alicante and Faro.

Amsterdam and Dublin were other popular suggestions.

easyJet will be providing flights from Southend Majorca four times a week, while there will be flights to Malaga six times every week.
