Southend's suffered some shocking crimes this year. Here's our roundup of the worse in the borough.

Luke Bellfield was killed in a fatal stabbing in Old Leigh. He was involved in a confrontation with three men on February 26, in which all four were carrying weapons and were known to each other. No one has yet been charged with Luke’s murder. Five other people were arrested in connection with the “extensive investigation.”

Sophie Leigh died after falling from flats in Southend. The 22, was been identified locally as the woman involved in the incident at the Bewley Court flats, in Whittingham Avenue, Southend at about 6.30pm. After fighting for her life in hospital, she died days later.

Sir David Amess MP was killed while helping his constituents in Leigh. Sir David died from stab wounds following an alleged incident during a constituency surgery held at the Belfairs Methodist Church back on October 15. Ali Harbi Ali, 25,has denied murdering the MP and has also pleaded not guilty to preparing acts of terrorism.

James Avis, 35, was killed after spending an evening drinking with mates. Radu Ciobanu, 24, of Kings Chase, Witham was sentenced after the death of James Avis in Hainault Avenue at around 10.35pm on Saturday, September 25. They had spent the afternoon and evening drinking with a group of other people During the afternoon 24 year-old Ciobanu and James, who was 35, got into an argument and Ciobanu headbutted him.

TWO thugs threatened to stab their victim and pour boiling water over them in a series of violent break-ins. Julian Dumatey, 26, of London Road, Westcliff and Ashley Gibson, 31, of Burney Drive, Loughton, have both been jailed for more than eight years after targetting two flats in Palmerston Road, Westcliff. The pair visited two homes armed with knives claiming they were owed drug money. In the first break-in they threatened to slash the victims throat, before breaking into the neighbouring flat after claiming to be police officers. Gibson has racked up 42 convictions including attacking police officers.

A YOUNG dad broke a doorman eye sockets after being thrown out of bar in Southend. Josh Boreham, 22, of Swanage Road, Southend was jailed for 10 months at Southend Magistrates Court for attacking the off-duty doorman in Queens Road, Southend on March 17 last year. The court heard Boreham and his friends were thrown out of Revolution Southend after smoking cannabis. The victim quit the industry after the attack. Prosecuting , Phillippa Page told the court Boreham slapped one bouncer before the victim intervened.
