A busy south Essex road is set to be closed for two hours after a lorry spilled cement. 

The incident on the A13 between Stanford Le Hope and Pitsea is causing delays this morning. 

In a Tweet Essex Travel News said: "A13 Eastbound – a lorry has shed its load of concrete on the carriageway between Stanford Le Hope and the Five Bells Interchange."

Essex Police's road policing team warned drivers the route would be closed for the next two hours. 

Drivers have been urged to find alternative routes. 

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We have closed part of the #A13 this morning after a lorry shed its load.

"The eastbound carriageway is closed between the junction for Stanford-Le-Hope and the Five Bells Interchange. Our officers were called at 7.50am and are working with partners to clear the road."

In a Tweet they said: "We are currently on scene on the A13 between Stanford Le Hope and Pitsea, Southend bound dealing with a cement spillage.

"The carriageway is likely to remain closed for the next 2 hrs. If possible please find an alternative route."
