A MAN will appear in court today after he was charged with attempted murder.

It comes following a serious assault in Tilbury which left a man fighting for his life.

The victim, a man in his 30s, was found injured in Feenan Highway shortly before 9.45pm on Sunday (January 2).

He was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition, where he remains.

Darnel Curtin, 19, of Chesterton Way, Tilbury, has now been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

He is due to appear in Southend Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday, January 6.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident, or anyone with dashcam or doorbell footage of the area between 6pm and midnight on Sunday, to come forward if they have not already done so.

Det Insp Julie Gowen, who is leading the investigation, said: “There will continue to be a policing presence in the area in the coming days and I would urge anyone with any information on this incident to come forward and speak to us if you have not already done so.

“You can speak to officers as they patrol, you can report information to us or indeed anonymously to Crimestoppers.

“I understand incidents such as this will naturally concern the community, but we continue to believe there is no wider threat to the public.”
