OVERNIGHT closures of the A13 are set begin this week – and will last for 27 consecutive days.

All lanes of the Pitsea and Vange bypass will be shut to allow Essex Highways to carry out trial hole investigation work.

It comes ahead of a planned reconstruction of the road.

The closures will be in place from 9pm until 5am each night, with access for emergency services maintained at all times.

Drivers will be asked to take the following diversion route: Nether Mayne, Fobbing Farm Roundabout, Roundacre New Roundabout, Roundacre, Broadmayne Roundabout, Broadmayne, Mopsies Roundabout, South Mayne and vice versa.

The closures will officially come to an end on Saturday, February 12.

Temporary signs will be installed to warn drivers of the closures and diversion route.

A junction further along the A13 will also be closed later this week.

The Orsett Cock roundabout and surrounding roads will be shut as part of the ongoing widening scheme.

It is closed from 9pm on Friday through the weekend and until 5am Monday, January 24.

Drivers affected are asked to plan their journey in advance to avoid the roundabout and nearby villages.

The A13 main carriageway will remain open as usual.
