A BODY found has tragically been confirmed as missing Basildon man Gary Billings.

The father, 37, went missing shortly after 1pm on Saturday, January 8 from the Whitmore Way area.

Essex Police have now confirmed they have located the body of a man that has tragically been identified as Gary Billings.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: "Officers carrying out a search for Gary Billings, who had been missing from his home in Basildon, have located the body of a man.

"Tragically, the body has now been identified as Mr Billings.

"Mr Billings’ family members are now being supported by our officers.

"Thank you to everyone who shared our appeal and the thoughts of everyone at Essex Police are with Mr Billings’ family and friends."

'You were one of life’s good people' - tributes to Gary

Tributes to Gary are already being posted on a dedicated Facebook page set up in his memory. 

Some tributes have already been coming in, admin of the group for Gary is Gemma Rose Wheeler, and she has posted her own tribute.

She said: “It is with great sadness that we update this page. Unfortunately Gary has been found today. Our deepest sympathies are with Gary’s family and young daughter at this extremely sad and difficult time. Gary’s family would like to thank everyone that assisted, searched and raised awareness. Please respect the families wishes and give them the privacy they need at this time. Rest In Peace Gary Billings 1984-2022.”

Craig Cagehin added: “Such sad, sad news about Gary! I was lucky enough to work with Gary for a while and we have some fun times and laughs. My thoughts go out to his family and may he rest in peace.”
