OVERNIGHT closures of busy roads in Basildon have been rescheduled after roadworks were delayed because of staffing issues.

Essex Highways says the completion of surfacing works will now take place next week because of staffing shortages affecting our supply chain.

Overnight closures of Christopher Martin Road and the A132 East Mayne have now been rescheduled were pencilled in for last week and this week.

But they have now been moved to next week, with the new dates confirmed as:

• Christopher Martin Road will be closed overnight from 9pm to 5am between the junctions with Honywood Road and the A132 East Mayne on Friday, January 13, Monday 17, Tuesday 18, and Wednesday 19.

A diversion will be in place via Honywood Road, Paycocke Road and the A132 East Mayne.

• The A132 East Mayne (southbound) will be closed overnight from 9.30pm to 5am between the Nevendon Roundabout and the junction with Cricketers Way on Wednesday January 12, Thursday 13, and Friday 14.

A diversion will be in place via the A127, A176 Upper Mayne and A1235 Cranes Farm Road.

Essex Highways says the dates are subject to further change.

The project will see the existing shared pedestrian and cycle route on East Mayne moved away from the central reservation.

Bosses say the scheme has been developed to reduce people’s exposure to air pollution.
