Petrol prices have stagnated over the previous week at forecourts across Colchester – although there have been slight changes here and there. 

Fuel from the Co-Op filling station on Peartree Road, for example, is 1p per litre more expensive than it was this time last week.

But the stagnation of prices overall comes as a relief to car users who saw costs climb mercilessly until December last year, when the prices finally levelled off.

Here are the figures for the petrol stations in Colchester for the week ahead.

1st – Asda, Turner Road (CO4 5TU) – 142.7p per litre

Asda is known for cheap groceries, and its petrol is affordable as well. The superstore on Turner Road is the cheapest for fuel in Colchester, marginally ahead of the two Tesco forecourts which are in second place.

2nd – Tesco, Greenstead Road (CO1 2TE) and Tesco Extra, Highwoods (CO4 9ED) – 142.9p per litre

Both of Colchester’s Tesco supermarkets had previously been low in the league of cheap petrol, but so far in 2022 they have been more affordable. A full tank at either petrol station will cost £85.74.

4th – Sainsbury’s, Stanway (CO3 8AA) – 143.9p per litre

Although the latter half of 2021 saw the Stanway in Sainsbury’s claim top spot in our fuel price leader board, its petrol prices have not dropped at the same rate as its competitors. A full tank here costs £86.34.

5th – Texaco, Shrub End (CO3 4SA)

Texaco’s petrol prices have stayed the same in the past week, with a full tank costing £86.94.

6th – BP, London Road (CO3 0NR) and Co-Op, Peartree Road (CO3 5JX) – 145.9p per litre

This BP garage is the cheapest provider from any of the oil giants in Colchester. Peartree Road’s Co-Op, joint top of the leader board a month ago, has sunk to 6th. A full tank at either forecourt will cost £87.54.

8th – Esso, Bergholt Road (CO4 5AJ) – 146.9p per litre

We are edging towards some of the more expensive petrol forecourts in Colchester now, with this Esso on Bergholt Road being rather dear. A full tank here costs £88.14.

8th – BP, Ipswich Road (CO4 0EU) – 147.9p per litre

This petrol station on the commuter route of Ipswich Road regularly comes in as Colchester’s most expensive, and this week is no different. A full tank here costs £88.74.
