New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to ten of Southend’s establishments.
We have taken a look at the latest ratings to see how restaurants, takeaways and other establishments which sell food have fared.
What do the numbers mean?
0 - urgent improvement necessary
1 - major improvements necessary
2 - improvements necessary
3 - business generally satisfactory
4 - business good on assessment
5 - business seen as very good
Each restaurant is also judged on three categories ‘food hygiene and safety’, ‘structural compliance’ and ‘confidence in management’.
Each section is awarded a mark from ‘very good’ to ‘very bad’ and for ‘confidence in management’ from ‘high’ to ‘no confidence’.
Restaurants, cafes and canteens
The following ratings have been given to seven restaurants, cafes or canteens:
• Rated 5: Costa Coffee at 37 Broadway, Leigh-On-Sea, Essex; rated on January 6
• Rated 5: La Sirena Restaurant at 101 Leigh Road, Leigh-On-Sea, Essex; rated on January 6
• Rated 5: Toby Carvery at The Bell Hotel, Prince Avenue, Southend-On-Sea, Essex; rated on December 31
• Rated 5: Troya at 80 Leigh Road, Leigh-On-Sea, Essex; rated on December 29
• Rated 4: The Squeeze Cafe at 96 Broadway, Leigh-On-Sea, Essex; rated on December 9
- Rated 4: Jeffreys Pie And Mash Ltd, a restaurant, cafe or canteen at 161 Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff-On-Sea, Essex: rated on December 8.
• Rated 3: The Brunch Co at 67 - 69 Broadway, Leigh-On-Sea, Essex; rated on December 9
Pubs, bars and nightclubs
And one rating has been handed to a pub, bar or nightclub:
• Rated 4: Mecca Bingo at 2 Greyhound Way, Southend-On-Sea, Essex; rated on December 9
Takeaways
Plus two ratings for takeaways:
• Rated 5: The Leigh Chippy at 186 Leigh Road, Leigh-On-Sea, Essex; rated on January 6
