ELDERLY residents feel unsafe in their own homes as teenagers cause havoc on a housing estate - with some scaling drain pipes to shout abuse into homes.

Residents in the “Birds Estate” off Eagle Way in Shoebury, have reported youths breaking up brick walls, climbing over garage roofs and up drain pipes outside homes.

Essex Police confirmed a probe and reports of criminal damage.

One resident, a mum aged in her 40s, said she is even considering wrapping barbed wire around her drain pipes to deter the thugs after numerous issues.

She said: “My neighbour who is in her 70s is anxious, stressed and worried. She’s suffering sleepless nights too and it’s not right we should feel unsafe in our own homes.

“We should not be putting up with anything like this at all. I’ve seen them rocking and pushing the walls and I thought at first that it was a car crash into the wall or something.

“I approached some of them and they pretty much accepted it was down to them. I don’t think it’s weapons or anything like that.

“We’ve also seen them running over our garage roof and they are climbing up our drain pipes and damaging them too.

“I have said I will use barbed wire and other similar materials.”

The angry mum shared images online of the damaged walls showing debris across the pavement and the vandalism.

James Moyies, Tory councillor for Shoebury said: “I can find out what’s been going on and what action has been taken and liaise with the council on it.

Echo:

“I am willing to take it up and see what we can do about this. Clearly it’s unacceptable and if we know who’s doing this they need to be dealt with as soon as possible.

“An email was sent to me late on Tuesday night referring to issues in Jackdaw Close.

“I have tried to contact the resident and will be following up with Essex Police to find out what action can be taken.

We can not accept this type of intimidation in our community.”
