FIVE suspected thieves climbed on a single moped and rode off after being stopped by police.
Officers from Essex Police’s operational support group had been responding to an incident in Grays when they spotted three mopeds being driven across a field.
An alarm on one of the vehicles had been triggered and was playing which raised police suspicions.
The officers tried to stop and make checks with the group seen riding the mopeds but all five of them jumped on one of the vehicles and rode off.
The two mopeds left behind were confirmed as stolen, with a report about the theft made just 30 minutes before police had found them.
Officers said enquiries are ongoing.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
