A MAN has been arrested after an assault near a chicken shop in Southend.

Police were called to Southchurch Road shortly before 8.50pm yesterday (February 4) to reports of a man injured.

Officers found a man in his 30s with head injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Witnesses reported a chicken shop takeaway in the road had been cordoned off with a police presence.

A 31-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on suspicion of GBH.

He remains in custody.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who has CCTV, dash cam or doorbell footage to contact them.
