A PET owl that escaped after her aviary was destroyed by Storm Eunice has been found.

Ethel, a two-year-old eagle owl, escaped between 10am and 12pm yesterday morning from her aviary in Hadleigh.

She was staying in her aviary at Solby Wood Farm, which was even stuck into the ground, when it was destroyed by the strong winds from Storm Eunice.

Thankfully after a plea on Facebook by Rhys Watson and girlfriend Amy Weitzel to help find Ethel was shared by more than 2,000 people, she was found.

The Facebook post said: “Please if anyone sees Ethel, please contact me or Rhys.

“She will most likely be hiding in your garden or in a tree as unfortunately the storm completely demolished her aviary in Daws Heath area and has flown away.

“She was in the field, so we know she was unharmed but please keep your eyes open as I am extremely worried.”

Rhys and Amy were already worried about Ethel this morning knowing the storm was coming but were reassured after the aviary looked stable when they visited, less than an hour before they believed she escaped.

They explained the situation and thanked everyone who shared and helped look for Ethel.

He said: “She is only their temporary at the moment, but I built an aviary there big enough to last the winter.

“We were down there earlier this morning, and it was absolutely fine, and she was fine.

“But you can see on the picture how bad the aviary is, I never expected this to happen, the aviary is sunk into the ground so we can’t believe it.

“It must have just had one to many blows and the whole thing has been destroyed and our Ethel has gone.”

“We were so worried, but the clever little girl flew back to the farm, and we have her safe and sound.”
