Huge queues are forming at petrol stations and some sites have reportedly run out of fuel as panic buying is again setting in.

Drivers were in queues from 2pm in Shoebury yesterday with images shared on social media and it's reported Asda in the town has now run out of fuel.

Last summer drivers faced hours of delays at the pumps due to panic buying with multiple sites running out and closing around the south of the county.

One driver says there was 100 cars at Asda in Shoebury this morning but the site is closed due to a lack of fuel.

Drivers also faced delays at Tesco off A127 Southend and at at Sainsbury off Rayleigh Weir.

One resident posted online: "If you need fuel this morning don't bother with Asda, they have ran out."

Another added: "Big line at BP by Bournes Green roundabout too."

Concerns are growing and panic buying is starting due to worries about fuel shortages due to the expected war with Russia and Ukriane.

Last September, the issue was sparked by the shortage of lorry drivers hit supplies.

Ministers faced fresh pressure to ease immigration rules as an emergency measure to attract HGV drivers from overseas amid warnings that 100,000 more were needed across the industry.

Drivers also faced delays at Tesco off A127 Southend and at at Sainsbury off Rayleigh Weir.

Des Marcel, 47, from Leigh sat in queues in Rayleigh and said: "I queued at Rayleigh Wier and think people expect prices to rise to want to get in before that happens.

Echo:

"It might also be caused by many people returning to work and a rush to fill up at high prices rather than really high prices or the usual fear of running out of fuel nationwide.

"It was the same at about 1pm in the afternoon at Sainsbury's near Rayleigh Weir as I tried to get through.

"If you need fuel, you need fuel and frankly very soon we could be spending £2 a litre so filling up now at least pushes that back a bit. I do 300 to 400 miles a week so need the fuel badly."

The delays have also been hitting vets services too as Southend Vets4Pets issued a warning online.
