The Tories kept hold of Southchurch in the by-election last night.
The seat came up after Alex Bright resigned due to a new position in the party. The turnout was 21.48 per cent and Darryl Jones was chosen.
Tony Cox, leader of the Conservatives said: "Congratulations to Darryl Jones the first elected councillor to the City of Southend. Darryl will be an excellent councillor for Southchurch and addition to the team and look forward to working with him."
Andy Lewis, Chief Executive of the City Council makes the declaration.
The result were as follows:
Susan Badger, Indepdendant: 294
Jo Bates, Green: 87
Tristan Bembridge, Lib Dem: 45
Nathaniel Doucette, Lab & Co-Op: 144
Darryl Jones, Con: 1,025
