A DISQUALIFIED driver who fled the scene of a crash has avoided immediate jail time.
Steven Harfield, 46, has been handed a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for two years, after admitting to a range of offences in relation to the collision.
Harfield was charged by police following the crash in Lifstan Way, Southend, on May 24 last year.
One person was injured in the collision.
Harfield, of Marine Parade, was charged with drink-driving, drug-driving, driving while uninsured, driving while disqualified and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
He admitted all of the offences during a hearing at Southend Magistrates Court earlier this year and was sentenced at the same court last week.
Along with a suspended prison sentence, Harfield was ordered to have treatment for alcohol dependency and was disqualified from driving for two years.
This will be shortened to a year if he undertakes a course.
