Proper locals' pub, The Guildford, is under new management with lots of exciting things coming up.
“The pub is getting a sparkle and a breath of fresh life with entertainment and special events,” said manager Hayden Leavers.
There is well priced food and drink, a pool table, darts board and jukebox at the pub in 95-97 Sutton Road, Southend.

What is the history of the pub?
Hayden said: “It opened in the Sixties, the Guildford has been the heart of the local community for years. It really is a true locals pub with many of the regulars drinking here since the Seventies! The pub used to be half the size it is now. When Greene king acquired the property they also acquired the laundrette next door and extended the pub to create the incredible establishment we know now.”

What drinks do you serve, and do you have any specials?
“A wide selection of lager, ales and spirits. The cheapest pint being IPA at £2.45 and Carlsberg at £2.60. Other draught products include Guinness, Strongbow, Strongbow Dark Fruit, IceBreaker, Peroni, Stella Artois, Birra Moretti and John Smiths. We always sell IPA and Abbot Ale with a guest on rotation.”
Do you serve food?
“We serve food daily from noon until 9pm. Fantastic value food including two pub classics for only £10.99! Amazing sandwiches, chicken wings, platters and many many other meals to enjoy.”
Do you have any regular quiz nights or music nights?
“There is karaoke every single Wednesday night. Rock and roll bingo every Monday night. Entertainment every weekend!”

Do you ever do any community fundraising?

Do you have any pub sports teams?
“We are recently launching a brand new pool team as well as a darts team and are looking to sponsor a local football team to give back to the local community.”
What’s the best thing about running a pub - and the worst!
“This job is a lifestyle. I love the customers, I love the events. We are there when people want to celebrate and also there when they need to mourn.
“The local pub is the beating heart of a community and it’s an honour to captain the ship.”
