MORE than a dozen protestors are due to appear in court for blocking roads in south Essex.
Police say 19 people have postal requisitioned to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court in connection with a demonstration held on October 13.
It saw members of the Insulate Britain protest group block St Clements in Grays.
Other roads in Thurrock were also blocked, including an M25 slip road, but the charges are only in relation to the St Clements blockage.
An Essex Police spokesman said: “Officers have worked closely with the Crown Prosecution Service as part of the ongoing investigation into the disruption in Essex and in other counties and have now received authorisation to charge 19 people with obstruction of the highway.
“The group have been postal requisitioned to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on May 26.”
Insulate Britain staged a number of protests on the M25 last year as part of its campaign to raise awarness over climate change.
Several other areas in Essex were also targeted, including near Lakeside and at the M25/A12 junction at Brentwood.
