Green bin recycling collections have been disrupted across Castle Point due to an overturned lorry on the A13.

The incident, which happened at 6.15am today, saw a lorry overturned after it collided with a car at North Stifford. Injuries sustained by the lorry driver are thought to be “life-changing” according to a police spokesman.

It has had a knock-on effect on bin collections with a spokesman for Castle Point Council saying road closures caused by the accident have meant lorries have been unable to attend to residents’ recycling bins.

The spokesman said: “Due to an accident and road closure on the A13 our green waste collection vehicles are stuck in the road closure.

“This means that we are unlikely to be able to collect green waste presented for collection today 23rd March, please present your green waste on your next green waste collection date.”

Two lanes on the A13 have now been reopened with the road due to be fully open by lunchtime.
