DOZENS of protestors are set to be charged in connection with demonstrations which blocked key roads in Essex last year.

Police say another 20 people will be postal requisitioned to appear in court following protests around the M25.

A force spokesman said eight of the group will be charged in relation to disruption caused at junction 30, near Lakeside, back on September 30.

They will be charged with obstruction of the highway.

The remaining 12 will be charged with causing a public nuisance.

Those charges relate to further disruption caused at junction 31 of the M25 - near the Dartford Crossing - on September 13.

All 20 have been asked to attend Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on May 27 where they will be officially charged.

A further 19 protestors have already been asked to appear in court in May in connection with demonstrations in Thurrock in October last year.

Climate awareness group, Insulate Britain, claimed responsibility for the demonstrations in Essex, which saw people block roads and cause long delays.

The group is an offshoot of Extinction Rebellion and is demanding the Government insulates all UK homes by 2030 to help cut carbon emissions.
