Essex Police enquiries are now ongoing and appealing for footage and witnesses.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We were called at 8.40am this morning, Monday 11 April, following reports of interference at an ATM in Mandeville Way, Langdon Hills.

“We found fireworks at the scene, our enquiries are ongoing, and we need anyone who saw anything or has dash cam footage to contact us.

“If you have any information, you can submit a report online at https://www.essex.police.uk or use the 'Live Chat' button to speak to an online operator between 7am-11pm.

“Please quote incident 165 of April 11.

“You can also call us on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Reports on social media and shoppers suggested part of the Tesco’s store was closed for a few hours.

Susanna Caira-Neeson arrived to go shopping at Tesco’s when she noticed a number of police officers outside the supermarket as well as a bomb disposal team.

She said: “I was there around 1pm to 1:15pm and there were a number of police cars, police officers and the Royal Logistics bomb disposal team.

“No one, as in the shoppers, seems overly concerned or panicked about the situation.

“It was obviously under control, and everyone was being kept safe.

“I think they were more concerned if the fireworks went off at that end of the store as they had only closed off part of the store, not the whole thing.

“But I was a little surprised when I first arrived as it isn’t an everyday occurrence here!

“We weren’t able to get everything we needed but of course safety is paramount.”

Tesco have been contacted for a comment.
