SOUTHEND’s ever-so popular Shakedown event will return to the city seafront this Monday, following a three-year absence.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of Southend Shakedown’s return on Monday.

  • What is it and what should I expect?

Southend Shakedown is an annual event that has seen thousands of bikers’ head to Southend seafront for more than two decades.

It is expected there could be around 6,000 bikers in Southend on the day.

The event also local bikers to get together and enjoy showcasing a whole range of motorcycles, while boosting businesses in the area, and enjoying live music and entertainment.

  • When will it take place?

The event takes place on Monday, April 18 on a bank holiday.

It runs from around 10am to 5pm, however, many arrive from around 8:30am onwards to secure their place on the seafront.

  • Can I go?

Anyone is welcome to this event; it is completely free.

This includes any motorcycle enthusiasts, or those that want to see all the motorcycles and soak up the atmosphere.

  • Why has it been gone?

Southend Shakedown has been happening every year for decades, however this is the first time it is back on the seafront for three years.

The annual event was originally organised by Ace Café, who ran it for 18 years, until it was cancelled in 2017.

Then in 2019, enthusiast from across the region, re-started the event for what was known as the Southend Shakedown Resurrection.

There hasn’t then been event since due to Covid-19 and the restrictions in place.

  • Where can I park?

The day is expected to be very busy, and parking will be limited.

On the South Side of Western Esplanade all parking will be suspended from Robertos to Southend Pier.

There are no parking restrictions on the north side of the road.

All seafront carparks will be open as usual, but again these are expected to fill up quickly.

For the bikers coming to park on their bike on the seafront, it is a first-come first-served basis.

  • Are there any road closures?

Yes, there are also road closures on the day.

Marine Parade from The Three Shells Café to Kursaal will be closed all day and cars parked in this area will not be able to leave until the road re-opens later in the day.
