ANGRY residents are fighting plans for 85 new mobile homes to be installed close to their houses.

The Dunton Court Road Residents’ Association is rallying against plans to turn a caravan storage area at the edge of the Lower Dunton Road development into more homes.

The residents fear that an influx of modular bungalows will overwhelm the already congested access to the site.

Royale Life, the firm behind the Lower Dunton Road development, have launched a formal planning bid to build the new homes.

Residents already living in the park home development are “angry and disappointed” with the plans.

A spokesman for the residents’ association said:“Most people are not against new homes in principle. However, residents have real concerns over access to and from the new site which will use the already crumbling infrastructure of narrow roads and limited paths.

“We look forward to Royale reaching out to the residents association and having constructive talks to benefit current residents, Royale and future homeowners.”

Laindon Park councillor Jeff Henry, who is mediating talks between residents and developers, said: “The residents are not being NIMBYS, they just want the development to be handled correctly.

“They don’t believe that the access has been thought through, and I would agree the traffic in Lower Dunton Road will be very heavy without improvements.

“Traffic is already bad, and 85 additional homes, all of whom have the right to have their own cars, will put a pressure on access.”

He added: “It’s difficult, because I want the site to be improved, but there needs to be a balance found with residents already living in the area.”

In planning documents, Royale Life claims the homes will provide “affordable” units for often overlooked demographics.

“The proposal is to redevelop a dense, cluttered and unsightly caravan storage area at Dunton Park, Basildon,” the report said.

“In its place will be a development of high-quality park homes. These park homes can help address the council’s shortfall in housing supply and provide a type of housing that is affordable and is suited, due to the bungalow style of the properties, to a particular type of occupant that often gets overlooked in housing delivery, such as older persons or those with disabilities.”

The firm has been contacted for comment.
