Plans to build a three-storey flat block on an estate in Vange have been unveiled.

Basildon Council is behind the proposal to build nine apartments on land off Ryedene in Vange.

The flats will be a mix of one and two-bedroom properties, with 17 parking bays provided alongside landscape improvements to the area.

Each flat would be allocated as social housing, with bosses saying the plans will make better use of the site, which is currently empty and backs onto Ryedene Primary and Nursery School.

Echo:

The proposed flats are described as being of ‘high-quality’ and ‘high-comfort’.

A planning statement submitted along with the scheme adds: “The site is well located in close proximity to public transport, while also being residential and relatively quiet.

“The site is at the heart of the surrounding community, and its development and enhanced green spaces will improve the usability of the space and create a destination, rather than a cut through.

“The proposed homes respond to their context in terms of scale, massing and materiality and provide generous private amenity space and private parking.”

Discussions over the scheme have been taking place for several years, with experts claiming a three-storey building would be acceptable for the area, and flats were of better use than individual houses.

Echo:

A footpath would be added close to the flats to increase pedestrian traffic in the area and help act as a deterrent to potential crime.

A planning application was submitted for the scheme last month and the council’s planning committee will make a ruling later this year.
