For many people the chance to work at Colchester Zoo would rank highly as a dream job.

There can't be many more exciting places to work and we're sure no two days are the same.

And there are often opportunities at the Maldon Road attraction.

The attraction is currently advertising for five jobs including a senior animal keeper roles.

The "exciting position" would see the successful applicant join the keeper team working in the Africa section.

The jobs available aren't just for those with animal-related qualifications either.

In fact, the zoo is often in need of tradespeople as well retail assistants and the like.

Here is a look at what is on offer.

Senior Keeper, Africa section

This role involves working with the spotted hyena, mandrill, warthog and cheetahs, among other animals.

A successful candidate will carry out “husbandry duties and maintain high standards of welfare for the animal species in their care.”

The job advertisement said: “As a senior keeper, the candidate will be required to input ideas for the continual progression and development of animal husbandry, breeding management and enclosure design on the section.

“Alongside more senior members of staff, the job holder will be responsible for mentoring and allocating work duties to junior Unique Colchester Zoo stampede set to return - here's how you can enteremployed staff members; qualified keepers and apprentice keepers, and volunteers; student keepers and work experience students.”

The role is a full time position working a 40 hour week and will include weekend work.

The closing date for the role is May 6.

Graphic design and marketing assistant

The vacancy in the marketing and development team involves assisting “their colleagues to achieve the marketing strategy and to help work towards Colchester Zoo’s mission of providing a first-class experience for all its visitors.”

It is a full time position working a five day week Monday to Friday, with some weekend work required.

Tasks would include copy creation and checking the website and assisting with website design and management.
