A road will partially close for 111 days from next week when gas works get underway.

Castle Point Council issued a warning to residents and drivers ahead of the closure along Sydervelt Road.

It will be shut between the junctions with Long Road and Urmond Road on Tuesday (May 3) and won’t reopen until late August.

Essex Highways says access for emergency services and pedestrians will be maintained throughout.

Drivers are asked to divert via Urmond Road, Denham Road and Long Road.

A closure notice published ahead of the road shutting adds: “The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while mains replacement works are undertaken by Cadent.”

Other road closures planned for Canvey next week include Church Parade, which will be shut between Tuesday and Thursday for ‘carriageway patching’.

Baardyk Avenue will also be shut from Tuesday for gas works by Cadent.

It will be closed until May 24.
