MEN “dressed as clowns and playing creepy music” have been seen driving through Laindon at night, with one resident now petrified to leave his home after claiming they followed him.

The 30-year-old resident, who asked not to be named, said he was followed at roughly 2am on Friday morning by four men in a van wearing costumes.

The man was walking down Burdock Drive, near Mellow Purgess, when the four men in clown costumes allegedly began t chase him.

Multiple residents have now taken to social media to say they have heard the “creepy music”, like something out of a horror film, being played in Laindon and Langdon Hills at night.

The resident said: “I just want anyone is travelling around Laindon late at night to please be careful, as I have been followed by four men in a van, who looked like they were wearing clown costumes.

“I started to run as they were following me, and eventually managed to get away.

“They also had a massive speaker on top of the van which was playing creepy music.

“It has made me feel really scared to walk out late at night on my own.

“It worries me that this is happening in my area, as it is scary, creepy and weird.”

The 30-year-old also said his friend in Laindon has also heard the creepy music going passed his house.

His 35-year-old friend, who also wishes to remain anonymous, lives in Laindon with her four children and has heard the music outside her home.

She said: “I have four children, and late at night these men are playing ridiculously scary music keeping them awake going around Laindon.

“My children now want to move as they are scared. We just don’t know what to do.”

Councillor Alex Harrison, representative of the Lee Chapel North Ward, said he will be speaking to residents in his ward about this.

He said: “I hadn’t been contacted personally by residents about this yet, but it does sound really concerning.

“If they are playing really loud, scary music, it is something that the police need to look into. And also, as councillor myself, I will now be speaking to people about this and whether they have heard it too, over the next few days.”
