BLOOD stains were left covering a street after a man was attacked with a bottle outside homes in Basildon.
A police cordon put in place on Saturday afternoon and forensics were seen gathering evidence in Whitmore Way.
Witnesses say a fight broke out in the street and a man was attacked with a wine bottle.
Essex Police has launched an investigation into the attack, but no arrests have been made at this stage.
The victim, a 33-year-old man, suffered an injury to his hand in the bottle attack which took place between 3pm and 4pm.
A Spar employee working nearby said staff had to clean up some of the blood in the street.

One neighbour, 49, who asked to remain anonymous, spotted the emergency services near her home.
She said: “We came home and there was an ambulance and a police car outside the shops and police appeared to be knocking on doors.
“A while later police started cordoning off an area near where I live. I walked to the shops and there was blood spattered all the way up the path from the cordon to the shops where a police man was stationed.
“I asked the man in the shop what had happened while I was paying and he said someone had been hit with a bottle.”
