Residents of Leigh have been buzzing after a group of children from a nearby nursery helped give a post box a little sprucing up.

The children, who all came from the Queen Bee’s Day Nursery on London Road in Benfleet, lived up to their name by helping a Leigh resident put a special bee-themed hat on top of a post box on Marine Parade on Tuesday (May 10.)

A fetching yellow and black design which was crocheted by resident Lydia Catling now sits pretty atop the post box for residents to admire and comes ahead of International Bee Day on May 20 which celebrates our fuzzy pollinators.

After enlisting the help of the children with the hats Mrs Catling then invited them over to her front garden for tea and biscuits to cap a special day.

She added: “They all enjoyed themselves and were very well behaved.”

The pot box hats have become increasingly popular in the area in recent years. With a special jubilee-themes hat popping up in Thundersley ahead of the Queen’s jubilee celebrations.
