A LONE sailor appeared to be suffering from hypothermia after being stranded out at sea all night.

The sailor has got stuck after their sailing yacht had suffered engine failure late at night.

The vessel’s radio also failed and with their phone battery empty, they had to spent the night on the boat and exposed to the elements.

The RNLI were eventually able to rescue the sailor on Thursday morning but it is feared they were suffering with hypothermia by the time emergency services arrived.

A Southend coastguard spokesman said: “The atlantic class lifeboat was able to intercept and bring back to Essex Marina where the casualty was handed over to HM Coastguard Southend officers and then passed into the care of East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust as they were cold and wet with early signs of hypothermia from being out all night.

“We wish the casualty well.”
