ENJOY these fantastic photos of the brave abseilers - including MP Anna Firth dressed as Wonder Woman - who went down a 154ft tower in the hope of raising £25,000 for Southend Hospital.

A spokesman said the money is still being counted as people involved have got six weeks to collect it.

The event took place at the tower in the Southend Hospital grounds, on Saturday where 70 staff, former patients and friends and relatives of patients descended the tower block using ropes.

The event was last held in 2019 before Covid struck.

It is hoped the event will continue.

It was the seventh time the abseil has taken place.

Across the previous six times the event has raised an impressive £143,000.

People were also raising money for Broomfield Hospital’s colposcopy unit and Basildon Hospital’s breast unit.

Mrs Firth said: "It was scary at the top, it's a long way down but once you get going it's ok.

"I hit the ground running and we are trying to go as fast as we can with everything.

"I did feel as though I could go faster but they have control of you at the top."

Also taking part were Dee Russ, 37, from Southend and Adam Roker, 35, also from the city.

Dee said: "It was amazing and it's the first time I've done this but I'd definitely do it again.

"It was a bit scary at first but I loved it."
