DRESSES and dicky bows were donned in support of local hospice care raising more than £60,000 to support families living with complex or incurable conditions.

The Havens Hospices Gala Ball, supported by a number of organisations including headline sponsors Argo Global, took place on Saturday May 14 at the Cliffs Pavilion.

The Ball was attended by around 200 special guests closely associated with the charity which offers bereavement support, pain relief and respite, as well as care for adults, children and young people at the end of their lives.

A spokesman for Havens Hospices, said: "This free, specialist care is there for as long as it’s needed, within the home and at its two hospices, Fair Havens and Little Havens.

"Guests on the evening included MP for Southend West Anna Firth and Havens Hospices Patron Rudolph Walker, best known for his role as Patrick Truman in BBC’s Eastenders.

"After a three course meal, the grand auction followed with guests bidding on sought after prizes including an 11-night cruise and VIP tickets to see Rod Stewart at the 02.

"The energetic auction was hosted by celebrity auctioneer Charles Hanson, known for his appearances in Bargain Hunt and Flog It!.

"The night featured entertainment from dancers and singers from Masters Performing Arts College in Rayleigh and Abba tribute band Abbalicious, which got everybody up on their feet to dance the night away."

Wendy Hogarth, philanthropy officer at Havens Hospices, added: "We can’t thank everyone enough for attending our annual Gala Ball to help raise thousands of pounds towards our hospice care which provides a lifeline for local families. Our Gala Ball is one of the highlights of the year for us and it truly was a fabulous night.

"It was amazing to see so many supporters donating towards our cause, helping Havens Hospices continue ‘Making every day count’ for those who need us in the local community. One kind supporter made a donation on the night towards the charity's utility bill, following the news that Havens Hospices would be experiencing an 85 per cent rise in its energy costs.

"We hope to see you all next year too for another evening of fun and fundraising."
