TRADERS say the return of the Halloween parade is “just what the doctor ordered" for Southend seafront.

Business bosses are delighted that the spectacular event will be returning again this autumn.

Organisers say the parade will be "bigger and better" than last year, with larger floats and entertainment this year.

Joan Tiney, 71 and owner of The Borough Hotel on Southend seafront, said: “We are very pleased that the event is returning for this year.

“I think other traders are happy about it and I think they should be happy about it.

"We do need this added boost as it’s the end of the summer season but it also helps kick start the free firework displays on the seafront.”

Martin Richardson, 56 and owner of the Happidrome Arcade on Marine Parade, also welcomed the return of the event.

The arcade boss said: “I think it’s fantastic and is just what the doctor ordered for Southend with major entertainment and it’s all free too.

“It’s very good for the traders and businesses and we do need to help draw in more people at this time of the year as it’s the end of our business season.

“It was a great evening out last time and was so successful too.

"Hopefully it will help bring out even more people and customers for the city and seafront this time.”

Simon Patterson, co-owner of Chinnerys on the seafront, believes the parade cans bring a "fantastic vibe" to the seafront.

The music venue boss said: “It was great to see so many people and families out enjoying themselves last time and we hope to see even more this time.

“We are looking forward to it and it’s good to see it is coming back.

"It’s for everyone and we were very pleased to see so many people out having a good time on the seafront.”
