Basildon Council bosses have warned residents about disposing of waste correctly.
A spokesman for the council said: "Last week, one of our vehicles caught fire along Barleylands Road because of items being disposed of incorrectly. Luckily no one was injured, but it could have been worse.
"Batteries, oil, chemicals, and hot ashes can all cause fires in our vehicles. Never place these items in your refuse or trade bins.
