A number of Southend defendants have been sentenced in court over criminal damage.

Here's our round up of the cases.

Mark Bushell, 54, of Lifstan Way, Southend was sentenced for damaging a court window.

On February 16 in Southend without lawful excuse, he damaged a window of a value unknown belonging to Southend Magistrates Court intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged.

He was ordered to pay compensation of £50, and an application was made for benefit deductions. Sum to be recovered £50.00.

John Haslett, 32, of Pantile Road, Southend was in court for attempting to cause criminal damage.

On November 23 2021 in Southend without lawful excuse, he attempted to damage a van to the value of under £5,000 belonging to a man, intending to destroy or damage such property.

He was discharged conditionally for 6 months and ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £22, and costs of £105 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Ashby Ashby, 33, of Milton Street, Southend was sentenced in court after damaging a door.

On February 17 in Southend without lawful excuse, he damaged a door to the value of an unknown amount belonging to a woman, intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged.

He was discharged conditionally for 12 months and ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £22.

Aaron Keenan, 25, Sutton Road, Southend was sentenced for damage to a front door panel.

On February 4 in Southend without lawful excuse, he destroyed a front door panel of a value unknown belonging to a victim intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged.

A community order made. The defendant must comply with the following requirements by October 19 2023: alcohol treatment requirement for six months, rehabilitation activity requirement up to a maximum of 40 days, and unpaid work for 120 hours within the next twelve months.

He was also ordered to pay compensation of £100 and costs of £105 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Robin McBurne, 57, of Princes Street, Southend was sentenced for criminal damage.

On July 28 2020 in Southend without lawful excuse, he destroyed glasses frames and display cabinets to the value of £4876 belonging to Specsavers Opticians intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged.

He was discharged conditionally for 12 months and ordered to pay compensation of £4876.

On September 27 2020 in Southend without lawful excuse, he destroyed a covid protective screen to value of £250 belonging to Specsavers Opticians intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged.

He was discharged conditionally for 12 months, ordered to pay compensation of £250.

Martin Butler, 34, of Devon Gardens, Rochford was in court for criminal damage.

On January 5 in Southend without lawful excuse, he damaged custody charge desk phone to the value of value unknown belonging to Essex Police intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged.

He was fined £200, ordered to pay compensation of £125 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £34 and costs of £105 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
