IT is only a matter of time until “someone is seriously hurt” at a notorious crash hot spot following another incident, residents fear.

On Saturday, two cars were involved in a serious crash in Peterborough Way, Basildon, at around 7pm.

Neither driver was hurt during the crash, but it was at least the third serious collision in the last 12 months on the road.

Now, residents fear that someone will be seriously hurt on the road.

Resident Hazel Lane, 48, said: “It’s a very, very dangerous road. Traffic here is extremely heavy and people drive way too fast down the road.

“There is a slight bend in the road where most of the accidents happen. People are perfectly legally parked on one side of the road, but drivers don’t stop to give way, they just chance it and fly past.

“We are worried a child is going to get killed down there. If the road doesn’t get changed then there will be a fatality before long.”

The latest accident saw two Ford Focuses badly damaged.

However previous accidents have been much worse.

In May of last year, a driver was rushed to hospital with head injuries after crashing in the same spot.

A few months later a motorcyclist was also hospitalised after coming off their bike near the bend.

Both drivers survived their injuries, bur Ms Lane fears the next crash could be much worse.

“There have been three bad ones in the last year and I really worry about somebody dying here, but we get little odd knocks and scrapes every week,” she said.

“We have near-misses every day, along with arguments between drivers and horns being blasted all time of the day.”

She says the problems began when the road, which used to be a dead end, was adapted to connect with Lincoln Road and create a “ring road” around the homes west of Northlands Park.

Ms Lane added: “Before the road was only used by people who lived there, but now we get loads of people cutting through and it just isn’t safe anymore.”
