FED up residents are demanding action over claims heavy downpours lead to water "leaking everywhere" inside a block of flats.

Fears have been raised it is only a matter of time before a resident slips and hurts themselves on puddling water at Mayflower Court on Canvey.

Images taken during a recent downpour show water seeping in through the walls and pooling on the stairs and corridors of the seafront estate.

Angela O’Neill says she has raised the issue with Residential Management Group (RMG), the firm responsible for maintaining the home, but says nothing has been done.

"The flats are in a shocking condition, any repairs are botched or just not done and now it’s becoming dangerous,” the 66-year-old said.

“It’s like a waterfall inside the block when it is raining hard.

“The water is coming in everywhere and the railing and stairs are beginning to rust and fall apart.”

A video Ms O’Neill recorded on Tuesday shows water seeping through the window fittings and walls.

She added: “I’ve said time and time again, there is going to be a tragedy in that block. It is so dangerous with all the water on the stairs, somebody is going to slip and get badly hurt.

“We’ve had nothing but problems and no answers.”

Ms O’Neill, who has been living in the block since 2008, says RMG charge her £1,681 a year for management and maintenance fees.

“Sometimes there even add extra charges of hundreds of pounds,” she explained.

“And yet the upkeep of the block is non-existence.

"We pay a lot of money in management fees, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s among the highest on the island, yet there is never any work.”

She added: “There are cracks appearing on the walls of the block, there is damp inside the walls, and when it rains heavily the walls start leaking.

“The properties have suffered with damp ever since I have been there, with people often moving out as a result.”

RMG has been contacted for comment.
