A cyclist has suffered life-changing injuries after a serious crash on the A127 in Southend.

A car and the woman cyclists crashed at the busy Cuckoo Corner junction at about 2pm on Friday.

The road was shut for hours as emergency services dealt with the incident.

Initial reports were that she had suffered injuries to her head, neck and pevis.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "The woman injured’s condition is described as life-changing but no longer life threatening. Our enquiries are ongoing. It was initially reported she had injuries to her head, neck and pelvis."

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 1.58pm on Friday with reports of a road traffic collision on a roundabout on the A127 in Southend. Two ambulances, a senior paramedic in a support vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene. One patient, an adult woman, was airlifted to King’s College Hospital for treatment.”
