A punk band from Southend will be reliving the sights and sounds of the Queen's silver jubilee during the coming platinum celebrations.

Jubilee77 will play three gigs in Essex, over the Bank Holiday weekend, playing nothing but classic British punk and new wave from the silver jubilee period.

The four-piece will be performing at: The White Hart, Witham at 2pm on Thursday; The Edge, Basildon, at 8pm on Thursday; and the Oakwood, Leigh at 9pm on Saturday. Free entry.

Bass player Keif Simon said: "The silver jubilee kick-started a golden era of music when Britania ruled the airwaves.

"Bands like the Clash, the Jam, the Police and of course the Sex Pistols helped to define that period and are every bit as iconic as the Queen herself, to many music fans."

Singer Lee Holliman added: "This weekend is about celebrating the best of British and that's exactly what we are doing with our set.

"But there were some great Essex bands from the 1977 to 1982 period that we specialise in.

"So we will be doing a few of tunes by local boys Dr Feelgood and Eddie and the Hot Rods too."

Guitarist Glenn Edwards said: "This is a new project but we have been in various different bands and projects for longer than we would care to remember.

"So we're looking forwards to seeing a few familiar faces over the weekend and a few new ones too."

The band is completed by drummer Chris Fay. Visit facebook.com/jubilee77band for more details.
