There were brilliant celebrations all across south Essex to mark Queen Elizabeth II becoming the first British monarch to celebrate a platinum jubilee.
Some of the most spectacular scenes came from Priory Park bandstand, where on Saturday afternoon, community choir Southend Vox took residents on a journey through the best of British music released during Her Majesty’s reign.

Katie McEwan, musical director for Southend Vox, said it was a “special weekend”.
Singing a range of pop, rock, soul gospel, the choir put on a treat of a show belting out fan favourites.

Picnic ware was laid out, allowing residents to bring their own food along to enjoy the show. With hundreds flocking to the park, sporting flags, badges and other patriotic gear.

Southend West MP Anna Firth joined the fun, as did councillor Kevin Robinson, the mayor for Southend.

The pair watched the show along with music man director David Stanley, who was for once watching a show, rather than leading it.

Ms Firth said: “It was an amazing outdoor concert. A massive congratulations to everyone involved. I Loved it!”

The lively scenes were captured on camera by Gaz de Vere as Southend turned out in numbers to show their respect for the monarch.
