RAYLEIGH and Wickford MP Mark Francois today revealed he voted against the PM in last night's vote of no confidence.

Tory MPs anonymously voted by 211 to 148 in support of the Prime Minister but the scale of the revolt against his leadership leaves him wounded.

Today Mr Francois, seen as a strong ally to the PM in recent months, revealled to the Echo he had voted against the PM.

Mr Francois said: "Although Monday’s Confidence Vote in the Prime Minister was conducted via secret ballot, on something as important as this, I believe my constituents have a right to know how I voted as their MP.

“I read the Sue Gray report very carefully and I was extremely disappointed by what I read, especially given that a number of these events occurred during a period of full Lockdown,” he said.

“I do not believe that the PM - or indeed anyone else senior in No.10 - has adequately taken responsibility for what went wrong and so, like my friend and neighbour John Baron, I voted against the Prime Minister on Monday.”
