After being treated at the scene, the young boy was then taken to Southend Hospital by road for care and further assessments.

The boy’s sister, Kelsey Brown, 17, revealed he only suffered minor injuries but has been left shaken by the crash.

She said: “I wasn’t there to witness it, but my mum phoned me to tell me what happened.

“I obviously rushed to hospital to meet them and when I got there, he was being examined by the doctors ready for a CT scan and to check for broken bones.

“Thankfully everything has come back OK, and he just has a really scratched up face, and is still a bit shaken of course.

“He was so brave, he is only four, but he laid there and let the doctors do what they needed to do.”

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the crash or who was in the area at the time to contact them.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Our officers were called to Mallards in Shoebury at 12.25pm yesterday, to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

“A child was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

“We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw the collision or anyone who has dash cam footage.
