Twenty-five rail ticket dodgers were caught red handed at Basildon station yesterday evening.

British Transport police officers were on patrol at the station assisting c2c rail staff.

The station is often plagued by people trying to jump the barriers and evade paying fairs.

Yesterday evening officers caught a whopping 25 fare evaders.

A BTP spokesman said: “This week we've supported revenue inspectors at Benfleet, Tilbury, Grays, Chafford , Laindon and Basildon.

“In yesterday evenings deployment 25 fare evaders were caught.

“We've also got planned additional joint revenue blocks based on reports from passenger and station staff.”
