A dangerous driver has been jailed and banned from the roads after speeding away from police and ramming a member of public with his car.

Roads policing officers noticed a car speeding through Harlow on Tuesday evening which made off down a bus lane after they tried to stop it.

After a brief pursuit, which ended with the driver ramming a member of the public so he could access a car park and run off, he left the scene and ran into a private address.

Thankfully, the member of public was left with no injuries.

The property he entered was identified and a man recognised by officers as the driver was found hiding in the shower.

He was arrested and taken to custody where after failing a drugs test he then refused to provide an evidential sample at the station.

The 40 year old man from Harlow has now been jailed for a year.

He was interviewed by officers on Wednesday and charged with failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, failing to provide a specimen for analysis and no insurance.

He was remanded in custody to attend court yesterday where he was sentenced to 12 months in prison and an additional five years driving ban.

He will also have to pay a £156 victim surcharge fee.
