POLICE are investigating an incident where a man sustained stab wounds.

Last night it was reported that a man was assaulted in Marine Parade at about 7.20pm.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening or life changing.

There were two incidents where people received stab wounds and enquiries are ongoing for both.

A spokesman for Essex Police said that officers were diverted from other areas to Southend last night as the incidents were ongoing.

Police have increased measures in place today following multiple arrests yesterday evening.

Southend officers have been given additional stop and search powers following a number of incidents of disorder in the seafront area.

This will mean that officers do not need reasonable grounds to stop and search someone.

The extension will be in place until 8.10pm tonight.
