The south Essex magistrates have been busy again with a range of cases.

Here's our latest round up of cases in front of the magistrates.

Nathan Murphy, 44, of Holbech Road, Basildon is due to stand trial in connection with driving offences. It's alleged that on June 25 last year in Billericay having been required by or on behalf of the Chief Officer of Police for Essex, he allegedly failed to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle, who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence.

The case has been adjourned to July 1 at Southend Magistrates Court for the trial. It's also alleged that on November 2 last year in Billericay having been required by or on behalf of the Chief Officer of Police for Essex, he allegedly failed to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle, who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence. This has also been sent to the same court at the same date.


 

James Bentley, 35, of Main Road, Hawkwell was in court for speeding. On September 07 in Aveley he drove a car motor vehicle, subject of a local traffic order, a 50mph limit at a speed exceeding 50 miles per hour.

The speed recorded was 59 mph. He was fined £220, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £34 and costs of £90. His driving record was also endorsed with 3 points.


Emma-Jane Brookes, 40, of Surrey Avenue, Leigh was in court for driving without due care and attention. On September 15 2021 in Westcliff she drove a car without due care and attention, in that the defendant was holding a white phone in her right hand, head tilted down towards the phone. 

She was fined £73, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £34 and costs of £90. Her driving record was also endorsed with 6 points.


Lee Brewster, 37, of Somerset Road, Basildon was sentenced in the magistrates for speeding. On September 13 in Basildon he drove a car at a speed exceeding the legal limit of 30 miles per hour.

The speed recorded by means of SL700 was 45 miles per hour. The speed limit was signified by street lighting placed at less than 200 yard intervals. He was fined £440, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £44 and costs of £90.00. His driving record was endorsed with 4 points.


Nicole Bruton, 35, of Alderney Gardens, Wickford was sentenced in court for a driving offence. On September 17 last year in Benfleet she drove a car when there was not in force in relation to that use such a policy of insurance or such a security in respect of third party risks. 

She was fined £660, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £66 and pay costs of £90. Her driving record endorsed with 6 points.


Matthew Clarke, 37, of Allysum Walk, Billericay was in court for driving without due care and attention. On September 15 in Billericay she drove a car without due care and attention in that was interacting with his mobile phone whilst driving which was taking his attention away from the road.

He admitted that he was reading a text message. He was fined £266, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £34 and costs of £90. His driving record endorsed with 6 points.
