SOUTHEND’S legendary seafront fireworks are set to return this autumn and light-up the city’s skies.

The spectacular displays will be held each Saturday from October 9 through to November 19.

It is hoped the firework displays will once again draw in large crowds and bosses are aiming to make this year’s events even more spectacular than normal.

Dynamic Fireworks and Mike’s Boatyard will help to organise the displays, along with the Southend Business Improvement District (Bid) team.

Business leaders and residents say they are delighted to hear the displays will be returning to the seafront.

Jacqui Dallimore, 59, managing director of the Roslin Beach Hotel on Thorpe Bay seafront, said: “The fireworks are humongous for the whole of the city.

“The displays bring in many, many people and I am delighted to hear they are back for this year.

“Any big and good event like this is only a great thing for the town.

“We’ve also got the Halloween parade which is going to be amazing too.

“The fireworks are spectacular and you can see them from the hotel and the displays are brilliant.

“I go with my grandchildren and we love it.”

Families have also welcomed the announcement, adding they provide a much safer display for children than private ones held in gardens.

Mother-of-seven, Carolyne Goodall, 53, from Leigh, said: “I think it’s a really good idea to have the displays back in Southend.

“We’ve been down before and loved seeing them.

“It’s also much safer and a better idea than doing them at home on your own. There’s also so much stuff to do there and you can make a lovely evening of it.”

Southend BID Manager Ashley Oglina-Beecham said: “The entire committee is thrilled to be hosting Southend’s renowned fireworks once again this year.

“Our priority is to position the city as a sought-after travel and leisure destination and that certainly won’t diminish when summer comes to an end; the autumn and winter months give rise to a number of exciting holidays that we’re eager to celebrate as a community.”

The displays will take place at 7.30pm each week.
