A man has been jailed for a string of thefts from Basildon shops including Tesco and B&Q.

Jason Shaw, of no fixed address, stole four bottles of champagne from Tesco worth £199 and six drill bits from B&Q on January 19.

He then stole four bottles of alcohol and several items of food worth £113 from Tesco on January 20.

The 44-year-old also stole alcohol and a bow and arrow toy from B&M on May 7, during which he was found in possession of a knife.

Shaw has been sentenced at Southend Magistrates’ Court to a total of 32 weeks in prison.
