Southend's Cliffs Pavilion is set to close for nearly two weeks this month amid the proposed major revamp.

Bosses have warned residents the entire Cliffs Pavilion, including the coffee shop, will shut from this Sunday (July 10) until Friday, July 22.

This is due to preparatory work for the proposed refurbishment project.

The huge revamp of Southend’s Cliffs Pavilion includes a plush new restaurant which will seat 194 people inside and 40 outside.

The existing 100 seat first-floor restaurant will be converted to a theatre bar area.

Rishi Sunak revealed last year that Southend would receive almost £20million from the “Levelling Up Fund” to spearhead ambitious plans, including the Cliffs Pavilion refurbishment.

The ambitious plans include a big extension on the site of the existing sunken terrace with a green flat roof, planted with sedum.

The new restaurant will be in the shape of a heptagon.

On the closure, A spokesman for Southend Theatres said on Facebook: "Sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment that this may cause but we look forward to welcoming you back from Saturday, July 23.

"The Box Office will remain open from 10am to 3pm, Monday to Saturday throughout this time."
